DescriptionAnxious to hear news of her, Montagu, and Mr and Mrs Wright. An eminent lawyer thinks there will be no difficulty in recovering James [Valentine's] pension when his father provides the necessary details and certificates. James Hay Beattie and the Principal bore the journey well but it was rather hard on Beattie. Lord Sydney informed Beattie that the instrument appointing James Hay Beattie as Beattie's assistant and successor was in the hand of Mr Spottiswoode. The patent had been signed by the King and was just awaiting a final signature from one of the Lords of the Treasury. Beattie presumes that the affair is concluded and the Principal congratulated James Hay Beattie. Two editions of Evidences are sold and a third is going to press.
