Question of Beattie's resignation - risk of appointment being lost if James Hay Beattie not appointed. Therefore proposed they should be joint professors, the office to remain with survivor in the event of death of one of them. Beattie's resignation to be recorded in College books, with copy to Duchess to give notice to those in office. Resignation to remain a secret. James Hay Beattie not yet 21, but College satisfied proficiency well beyond his years. However, he will start his office on his twentieth year, and Beattie will carry on with his duties as long as possible. |
