Administrative HistoryWilliam Cameron [1751-1810] attended an MA course from 1766 to 1770, and Beattie likely taught him in his final year. He bacame Minister at Kirknewton, near Edinburgh in 1786. He was intermediary for Hugh Blair in approaching Beattie about new metrical versions for the psalms in 1778, and he later wrote a continuation for the Minstrel that was published posthumously in 1813
DescriptionHe praises Cameron's Psalms, but he is convinced that they shouldn't be versified. He hears that new collection of metrical paraphrases for the Church of Scotland is not much liked. The former one very bad. Does not know whether Cameron will like his two Psalms, but encloses them. Beattie's little pamphelet on Psalmody having struggled into Ireland, he was applied to for a Bookseller in Dublin to print an edition, with the two psalms to be subjoined as a specimen. He has not heard on whether they had been published.
