Administrative HistoryWilliam Cameron [1751-1810] attended an MA course from 1766 to 1770, and Beattie likely taught him in his final year. He bacame Minister at Kirknewton, near Edinburgh in 1786. He was intermediary for Hugh Blair in approaching Beattie about new metrical versions for the psalms in 1778, and he later wrote a continuation for the Minstrel that was published posthumously in 1813
DescriptionOn versifying some passages of Scripture for the enlargement of their Psalmody. Groundwork should be the version used in the church of Scotland. Comments on Tate and Brady's, Sternhold and Hopkins's and Watt's versions. Beattie will draw on all of them to propose a new version.
