Brother of Robert Hay Drummond, Archbishop of York William Murray, Lord Mansfield [1705-1793] 1st Earl of Mansfield and Lord Chief of justice since 1756
Description	He thanks Beattie for letter of 29 July. He wants to serve Beattie, but his influence is weak, having retired from public life. Sir John Pringle cannot be the reserve incognito. He is happy to write to Lord Mansfield though he doesn't believe this will have as much weight with Lord Mansfield as Beattie's own merits. He will consult with the Archbishop of York in September. Puzzled that Mrs Montagu says Beattie would be glad of a proffessorship in Scotland. He does not think any of them would be sufficient reward for Beattie especially as he declines going to Edinburgh
