Administrative HistoryEdward Dilly [1732-1779]. He and his brother Charles were booksellers in The Poultry, London. The brothers were the London publishers of the Essay on Truth and The Minstrel

Elizabeth Montagu [1720-1800] She met Dr Gregory in 1766, and he introduced her to Beattie's Poems on Several Subjects, which she admired. Beattie met her in 1771, during his visit to London, and they remained close friends until her death. She was an active promoter of Beattie's advancement and she became his principal adviser on literary matters. His final collection of poems was dedicated to her in 1784
DescriptionCritical Review account on Essay. New editions of the Essay and The Minstrel will be published on 1 February. Dilly is sending all the sheets so far printed of the Essay and the new edition of The Minstrel, which will allow Beattie to insert any errata. Also sends Mrs Montagu's observations on Shakespeare as a present from her. Would be greatful if Beattie could obtain the diploma of LLD for Mayo
