Administrative History
William Traill [1746-1831] Professor of Mathematics at Marischal College from 1776 to 1779, when he moved to a living in the Church of Ireland
Description
Happy to hear Beattie's health improved, that he had made a journey to England and is preparing something for the press, but hopes it will not affect his health. Traill has shown Beattie's letter on psalmody to several people in this country who wished it more generally known. Those who wished to try a new versification of the psalms, a task which Beattie has declined, would benefit from his observations. Traill left two copies at a bookseller in town who asked if they might print them. Traill gave permission thinking Beattie would have no objection to them being published in Ireland. Hope this will be acceptable to Beattie. Traill has received a new preferment from the Bishop of Down which after paying his curate will produce about £800 a year. Is building a parsonage. Hopes Beattie may visit
