Alexander Baillie [d. 1798] of Dochfour. Lived at Cradlehall near Inverness, but apparently had strong connections with the West Indies. Army officer, friend of Beattie and James Mercer, occasional visitor to Peterhead
Description
Melancholy to observe appearance of public affairs. Dreads news to be expected from West Indies. Refers to Beattie's family and James Hay Beattie. Also refers to Mr Tait, who is actic as tutor to the family, and also as clergyman to a diminishing nonjuring chapel.
