John Honyman [1745-1783?] Former pupil of Beattie, admirer of Beattie's writings. Marischal College 1759-63. Church of Scotland Minister at Penrith, Cumbria
Description
Apologies for something he wrote not knowing Mrs Beattie was ill. Had suggested Beattie had been corrupted by 'what courts and Kings can yeld' [Minstrel, Book 1, stanzas 4 in 1st edition. This stanza was removed in 4th edition, 1774]. Enquiries about second part of Minstrel, and whether Johnson has been converted to the authenticity of Ossian
