Administrative History
William Mason [1724-1797] Poet, Canon of York, friend and biographer of Thomas Gray
Description
Disappointed not to have seen Beattie on his return from London. Pleased about pension. Proceeds very slowly in memoirs of Gray - his hopes of seeing Beattie, and having his opinion on the part already written, made him relax. Including poems will make a well sized quarto. Needs letters themselves from Beattie rather then fragments. Will put money from Gray's life to charitable purpose - send young man to Cambridge. Refers to Gray's comments in copy of the Minstrel
