DescriptionNews of Alex, who has purchased a house in Charleston and on Sullivan Island. In 1799 Alexander Garden's plantation yielded 100 barrels rice and 110 bales cotton, a net sum of £3500, an astonishing revenue from the labour of 50 Negroes - easily worked and happy. The change of Staple has lately occasioned an astonishing change in the fortunes of the Planting interest, particularly in the Tea Islands and to the South of Combalee, even in this obscure corner.
