Letters of Arthur Duff, Glasgow (68, 69), 38 Suffolk Street (70-105), Oxondon (Northamptonshire) (106) and Edinburgh (107) to Countess Fife, giving social and political news from London and discussing family affairs; the letters are highly conversational in style and refer inter alia to: 'the Queen's Birthday' (70), 'Mr. Cox's Museum' (71), 'the Druids' (72), 'Mr. Hartley's house upon Wimbledon Common' where he saw 'experiments to prevent damage by fire to houses by means of thin iron plates' (76), 'Duchess of Kingston's trial' (95, 98, 99, 102, 103), Drury Lane (97), 'a hurricane' (98), 'recruiting bill' (100), Garrick's funeral (101), 'Dr. Sparks ... who attempted to burn the dock yard at Plymouth' (102).
