Passage to Nantes has taken 43 days until 12 April; voyage unevenetful apart from enjoyable passage up the Loire; coments on death of Mr. Spurgeon; account of visit to town on Holy Thursday to see Easter celebrations in the cathedral now in process of being restored; discusses difficulty of obtaining cargo; if not chartered to return to West Indies in ballast, they may cross to Bristol Channel and engage a master to take over the Scotia for a voyage so that they can have a holiday; perhaps former mate who had passed for master might accept post; they had been in Barbados when news of death of Duke of Clarence was received [d 14 January 1892]
