Administrative HistoryPittodrie estate, Chapel of Garioch parish, Aberdeenshire, was in the hands of the Erskine family from 1602. It was succeeded by Henry Knight Erskine, Esq. (b 1858) in 1870, and remained in his hands in 1901.
Custodial HistoryBelieved to have remained in family hands prior to deposit. Date and source not recorded. Possibly deposited in the University by Thomas Erskine of Pittodrie, before 1969.
DescriptionLegal papers of the Erskine family of Pittodrie, Aberdeenshire, 1602 - 1787, comprising tack of teinds, 1602; charter of William Erskine, in favour of Sir James Elphinstone of Logie, bart., in liferent, respecting church or chapel lands of Chapel of Garioch, Meikle Wartle, and other lands, lying in the parish of Rayne, 1719; disposition and bond of taillzie by Thomas Erskine of Pittodrie, 1751; nomination and deed of taillzie by Thomas Erskine of Pittodrie, 1752; inventories of writs of Harthill, Old Rayne and other lands lying in the parishes of Oyne and Rayne, 1632 - 1705, and of rights of teind of Conglass or Kinglass, Inverurie, belonging to Miss Mary Erskine of Pittodrie, 1765; draft marriage contract between Major Henry Knight and Miss Mary Erskine, daughter of deceased Thomas Erskine of Pittodrie, 1779; memorial and queries (with 2 copies of answers), for the children of the marriage between Lieutenant Colonel Henry Knight and Miss Mary Erskine of Pittodrie, 1787.
