DescriptionCharter of Confirmation containing a Novodamus granted at Kildrummy and Edzell on 17 and 25 Sept 1626, by John, Earl of Mar, Lord of Erskine and Garioch, Treasurer of Scotland, and his son, John, Lord Erskine. By virtue of a decreet of reduction and adjudication obtained at Mar’s instance against Lord Elphinston and Alexander, Master of Elphinston on 1 July last respecting the lands and barony of Kildrummy, etc., these were declared to belong to Mar and his son, John, Lord Erskine. In consequence this charter respecting the lands of Contlach in the barony of Kildrummy held [as in earlier writs] of Elphinston and his son as superiors by John Gordon, younger of Craig, is now granted by Mar and Erskine as superiors for same annual payment of 25 merks and casualties as before, to John Gordon, younger of Craig and his wife Jean Gordon and their heirs male. Precept of Sasine is included. Written by Master Robert ? Paip, W.S., Edinburgh. Witnesses: at Kildrummy to the signature of the Earl of Mar (names inserted by Master James Elphinston of B[?arnes]) were John Erskine of Balg[ownie?], Alexander Stirling, Henry Dow and Robert or Richard Cunningham; at Edzell (inserted by Lord Erskine) to the signature of Lord Erskine were said John Erskine of Balgownie, Henry Dow and Robert Cunninghame and William Stewart, ? servitor to said John Erskine may be styled of ‘Balgownie’ or ‘Balgillanie’. Stirling, Dow and Cunningham were all servants of the Earl of Mar. The seal of the Earl of Mar is still appended. In Latin. On parchment.
