DescriptionCharter granted on 30 June 1596 at Elphinstoun, by Alexander Elphinston, eldest son of Alexander, Master of Elphinston of Barra, Baron of Kildrummy, with the consent of his ? curators and cautioners, by virtue of rights as feudal superior ? first granted by his ? grandfather, Robert, Lord Elphinstoun, to William Gordon of Craig, grandson and apparent heir of the late William Gordon of Craign, which had been resigned into his hands for reinfeftment, which was now granted by this charter of confirmation in favour of William Gordon of Craig and Clara Cheyne, his wife and his heirs male bearing the cognomen and arms of Gordon, respecting the town and lands of Contlach and Auchenleith in the parish of Auchendoir [boundaries are given]. Duty payable of 25 merks Scots, 6 geese, 6 capons, 6 hens, 6 poultry, etc. and other casualties. Includes precept of sasine requiring Adam Gordon to act as bailie. Witnessed by Patrick Barclay, ‘apparent’ of ? Towye, Robert ? Drummond in -- of ? Carnock, Master Arthur Anderson of Auchmyllen [Auchmullan], Master Patrick Duff of ?
