Description[a partial transcription made in early 19th century is enclosed]. Endorsements: "Charter on Fisher? Crofts Bound on the Eyst and west parts of the Castle hill of Banff with the Liberty of fishing boats etc. This liberty is contained in the Tenendas usual in these days.... the chaplain 35 shill[ings] Augmentation 5 shillings. White fish boats and crofts thereof. 10 now belonging to the Earl of Airlye". There are two other endorsements as yet un-deciphered. Charter granted by John Currour, senior, George Currour, brother of the late James Currour, portioner of Inchdrewer or tutor of Walter Currour orphan son of heir of the late, above, James Corrour and John Kennerty burgesses and citizens of the burgh of Banff, specially elected commissioners of the same with the consent of Master James Currour chapel of Holy Cross of Banff, and with consent of Thomas Baird of Burnside & Master George Duncanson baillies of the said burgh for the augmentation of the rental of the said chapel, etc. confirmed in favour of Walter Ogilvy of Dunlugas, knight & provost of the burgh and Alison Hume, his wife, and their lawful heirs the fishing commonly known as "lie fischaris" lands within the burgh of Banff to the north and west of the Castlehill of Banff belonging to the said chapel and presently occupied and laboured by Wm. Low, Wm. Allan, John Leith or Leill senior and junior, George Leil, John Smith, John Mackay, Thomas Macky, Andrew Sandesalln[?], John Stannowind[?] and two John Allans and other fishers and sailors with the dwellings and buildings thereon and to be built to belong to the said Walter Ogilvie etc. in free burgage of the freedom of said burgh in feu ferm with liberty of building one or more boats and fishing from the harbour for white fish in return for 35/- Scots and 5/- augmentation. Signed and sealed at Banff [tag for seal still attached but seal now missing] on 2nd June 1552 before witnesses James Baird, Alex. Davidson, James Wilsoun, William Clerk, preceptor of Banff Grammar School and George Scot, chaplain, Signed by John Currour, John Kennerty (pen guided by Geo. Davidson M.P.) George Currour also signed by Master James Currour, chaplain of Holy Cross, Thomas Baird and Master George Duncan. [perhaps Holy Cross should be Holy Rood.]
