DescriptionPrinted (copy of) petition [found in envelope with postmark 1888, addressed to W. Cramond, Cullen] dated 28th July 1712. Addressed to the Lords of Council & Session by the magistrates of Banff, signed by Wa[?lter] Pringle. Requesting that mortification granted by Alex. Winchester (in 1661) out of his lands of Stornylay & Knockines of 20 bolls farm meal yearly to be paid for the maintenance of three scholars at the school of Banff, of which Banff magistrates were patrons, should be reserved from the judicial factory granted to James Murray, in Eldrigg, on sequestration of lands of Robert Sanders, heir to Winchester, in order that the amount of the mortification be available to the magistrates according to the adjudication, charter & sasine & decreet of mails and duties held by them. [Apparently there had been at some time other papers relating to Banff Academy preserved with this as a slip with it is headed "Academy Papers Banff"]
