DescriptionNotarial instrument taken by Thomas Murray, N.P., at Rathven Manse on compearance there of John Hay of Muldavit (on behalf of himself and other heritors before Nicholas Dunbar of Castlefield, sheriff depute of Banffshire, who in the name of William Chalmers, late minister of Gartly, was to receive the keys to the said manse and to pronounce said William Chalmers as being then instructed [?] and ordained minister of the parish, Chalmers himself, having wilfully absented himself. The manse had been apprised before the removal of John Hay, late parson of Rathven and found sufficient and if Chalmers were not satisfied thereanent he might make a new application before his entry otherwise the heritors did not hold themselves liable for the expense of any repairs he might incur. Taken before Charles Gordon of Glengaerrock[?], Wm. Hay, factor of Rannes & John Hay of Elchries.
