Administrative HistorySir James Balfour was born in 1600 in Denmilne (Denmiln), Fife. He travelled widely but his interests were mainly in Scottish history and antiquities. He was an associate of many Scottish historians and studied under William Dugdale in London for a time. He wrote numerous works including an account of Scottish religious houses and 'Annals of the History of Scotland from Malcolm III to Charles II'. He was Lord Lyon from 1630 until his death and was created a baronet of Nova Scotia in 1633. He was responsible for collecting many of the surviving records of Scottish monastic houses, many of which are in the National Library of Scotland.
Description'A Genealogical account of several dukes, marquesses and earls of Scotland', 1707. The manuscript was transcribed from the one in the Advocates' Library, Edinburgh, in January 1707, for the sum of £8.0.0, paid by King' s College, Aberdeen.
