| Administrative History | The author of the letter, Professor Friedrich Max-Muller (Frederick), was born in Dessau in Germany in 1823 and educated at the universities of Leipzig and Berlin. He was Corpus Professor of Comparative Philology at Oxford, and an orientalist specialising in Buddhism. He died in 1900. |
