Administrative History | Hugh Blair was born in Edinburgh in 1718. He graduated M.A. from the University of Edinburgh in 1739 and began a career in the church being appointed minister of Collessie in Fife (1742), the Canongate (1743 - 1754), Lady Yester’s (1754 - 1758) and the High Church (1758) all Edinburgh. He was appointed Professor of Rhetoric at the University of Edinburgh in 1760 and Regius Professor of Rhetoric and Belles Lettres, 1762 - 1783. He died in 1800. |
