Napier when a Captain in the Bengal Engineers (c.1845); copy of report on railway building in India (c.1851-1880); 'Instructions for the Guidance of Officers Commanding European Regiments embarking for China' (1860); despatches of Major-General Napier reporting the operations of the Second Division of the China force (1860); appreciation of R. C. Napier reprinted from the 'Times of India' (1876); copy of report on Army reorganisation (1881); account of siege and defence of Lucknow written by Napier, then Military Secretary, to Major General Sir James Outram (1857); copy of speech given by Napier 'in returning thanks for the Army' at a dinner given by the Lord Mayor to the Prince of Wales, President, and the Royal Commissioners of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition (1886); memorandum prepared by Napier on 'the policy to be pursued regarding Egypt' (1885).

There are also 3 small volumes: a description of 'events at Agra' (May - September 1857), a selection of papers on various subjects relating to Agra (1857-1858), and a printed copy of a speech given by General Sir Orfeur Cavenagh on the Indian Army (1882); 3 manuscript copies of official documents discussing Italian colonial aims in Africa, including a summary of correspondence relating to Italy and Abyssinia (1869-1888); volume containing a detailed report on the progress of public works in India (1852); memorandum concerning Britain's military position in India (1875).
