DescriptionLetter (duplicate) from Francis Grant, Trelawny to Charles Gordon. Reports on crop prospects, purchases of negroes, expenses incurred, including new ‘hot house’ and other building work, and mules and steers. Discusses situation of Frendh in Hispaniola. Jamaica has no spare troops and Americans cannot assist. Second letter (6 December 1791) appended to MS 1160/6/76/1. Martial law is to be declared on 10 December and reinforcements are to be asked for. The militia are preparing for trouble but writer thinks all will do more harm than good as action makes slaves believe they are feared.
