DescriptionLetter from Alexander Forbes, St. George’s, Jamaica to Charles Gordon of Buthlaw, care of Dr. William Thom, Aberdeen, by the 'Swift' packet, Captain James. Trusts that Gordon has now arrived home safely after a stormy passage. Gives Jamaica news and account of damage suffered by shipping in harbours of Kingston and Port Royal and countryside from hurricane on 1 August. He has been unable to visit Leeward and report on Georgia; Messrs. Grant will no doubt do so. The fleet has been dispersed and many may never reach Britain. He gives news of friends and acquaintances, deaths, and asks Gordon to look into some claim of Forbes’ in London, and to visit his mother.
