TitleLetter: James Barclay to Captain John Thomson
Date23 May 1757
Extent1 item
DescriptionLetter written by James Barclay, Jamaica to Captain John Thomson, late commander of the Fonthill, to be left at the Jamaica Coffee House, London, per H.M.S. Roebuck. Thanks brother-in-law for letter of 20 January by hand of Captain Arbuthnot, whom Barclay promises to assist and who hopes to ship cargoes from Lucea [Jamaica]. He cannot think of returning to Scotland for some time as he is involved in the affairs of Mr. Gordon and Mr. Knight as well as his own. Sends good wishes to his aged mother. Regrets that brother’s two boys and a girl living in Jamaica were not mentioned in his will. Discusses what should be done. Also comments on letter to mother enclosed for delivery.
