| Description | Asks for the help of the Queen’s officers for the bearer, Cornelius Vortinus (?), a Flemish goldsmith who is going to London, where he had married, to bring away his furniture and family. The Duke has decided to open a mart at Heinrichstadt (Wolfenbüttel), at which foreign merchants can trade, and provide many new buildings there. He had Englishmen particularly in mind; they would be particularly welcome. It would be well suited for dealing in woollens and obtaining supplies of wool; they could also trade in grain, if recommended by the Queen. Vortinus will supply a copy in Latin and German of the privileges the merchants would have, if asked through Beale. [Abstract by James D. George] |
