DescriptionAbstract:
Accedes to the Duke’s request and asks in return that at the Council of Princes, which she has heard is to be held in Germany, he will not countenance any decision 'by which the unity of the Churches would be sapped or any occasion for Schism arise'. The text of the body of the letter is followed by a formal opening, before which Beale has written 'The beginning'. [Abstract and note by James D. George]

In reply to August's letter of 9 February 1578 MS 1009/1/3; the forthcoming Council of Princes appears to be the meeting then planned at Schmalkalden but subsequently postponed indefinitely.

The draft begins with a reference to August's letter of February 'Ex l[itte]ris tuis mense ultimo Februarij', 'From your letter of February last' and is followed by a formal opening, before which Beale has written 'The beginning'. This finishes with the firstwords of the draft, and August's titles are added in a box below.
