Abstract and notes by James D. George: A brief report on Beale’s negotiations to be taken in England by Mr. Carlile. Beale has been 'extremely tormented with the tooth ache'. (i) Carlile was about to leave for England on 14 May, 1576 (see end of No. 31B [MS 109/1/31]); this letter is a few days later, since it mentions the arrival of certain Dutch envoys at Calais on 15 May. (ii) Beale has used the draft for jotting down notes. These include certain names ,/ of which ‘M. Teymon’ (cf. endorsement on No. 19 [MS 109/1/19]) is one, and the following: ‘Write into England. Reckon with my hostesse’. [End of notes] |
