DescriptionLetter in French from the Council of State of the United Provinces in Utrecht, signed van Langen. Discussing military matters and troop movements in the Dutch Revolt; the Council has opened certain letters from the Count of Nassau and asks the recipient, addressed only as "Your Excellency" to come and inspect them. It discusses enemy activities in the diastrict of Altena (Brabant) and the sending of reinforcements to the Count of Hohenlo[h]e and Captain [Juliaan] Cleerhage, superintendent of Gorinchem.

Endorsement, possibly in Beale's hand: 23o Maij: 1586 The Counsale of Estate, To re[in]force the garrisones in the forte of Altena that they have not thither 50 men.

The addressee is presumably the Earl of Leicester as Governor-General of the United Provinces.
