Custodial HistoryThe collection was deposited by Alexander Walker (1825-1903); Dean of Guild, Aberdeen. Walker was born in Old Aberdeen in 1825 and educated at Aberdeen Grammar School. His father was a merchant, William Walker, and he joined the family firm when he left school. He was a notable figure in Aberdeen life, serving as Dean of Guild from 1872 to 1880 and as Vice-President of the Traders’ Defence Association. An elder of West Parish Church, he carried out a broad variety of charity work in the city, and was also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He took a keen interest in education and was involved in several schools. He was awarded an honorary LL.D. by Aberdeen University in 1895, and died in 1903.

DescriptionBook of unsigned copy letters from Aberdeen, in same hand, to correspondents in Aberdeenshire and West Indies. These appear to have been written by someone called Reid who may have been a lawyer in Old Aberdeen.
