| Administrative History | Patrick Gordon was the second son of Sir Thomas Gordon of Cluny and his wife, Lady Elizabeth Douglas. His family was closely linked to the Gordons of Huntly and it was in defence of this branch of the Gordons that he wrote his history, in reply to George Wishart's history of the civil wars, published in 1647. Wishart has criticised the actions of the second marquess of Huntly, Patrick Gordon's former patron. The manuscript was first published by the Spalding Club in the nineteenth century. |
