Includes representations on national and international issues, for instance from the National Council of Women on refugees from the Sudetenland 1938, on Dr Karl König’s plan for a community of Austrian refugees in Aberdeenshire on the Steiner model (the later Camphill community), from the Scottish Newspaper Society on the Official Secrets Act 1939. There is also extensive correspondence with Thomas Tait & Sons Ltd (Inverurie Mills) on water pollution and cheap imports of paper from abroad. Also scripts of a talk “Scotland in Parliament” given by Smith on the BBC on 29 June 1939, with associated correspondence. The bundle also contains some private correspondence, for instance letters from James Scott & Son Ltd. Aberdeen on the fitting of kitchen equipment at Crowmallie, travel arrangements, and the like.
