Administrative HistoryMCP-01 received gas from the Piper Field, and was the link between Piper Alpha and the shore for the tropospheric scatter communication system. Consequently the response to the situation by MCP-01 was examined during the investigation into the disaster.
DescriptionPiper Alpha Technical Investigation Interim Report and the Piper Alpha Technical Investigation Further Report.

The former dates from September 1988 and describes the installation and Piper Field, events in the platform prior to the incident, the incident itself, the technical investigation, subsequent actions, and preliminary findings into the causes and any further work to be done before the final report could be produced. Includes five annexes: Declaration of survey of the emergency equipment of an offshore installation; major changes (modifications to the structure of Piper Alpha); location of vessels (nearby when the incident occurred); photographs (A4, colour, taken before, during and after the incident, available in a separate booklet); and structural damage to the jacket and location of debris on the seabed. Includes many engineering plans, sections and elevations of the Piper Alpha platform, charts depicting flow rates and a glossary.

The latter contains similar information to the Interim Report and was produced in December 1988. Additional information includes more possible causes of the incident, updates in the progress of the technical investigation. The annexes are missing. The cover is annotated with the initials of those in Total who are to receive a copy.
