Administrative HistoryKay Needham-Hurst (nee Kathleen Stone) (b 1907), of Colchester, England who deposited this small collection, is descended from the Minto and Reid families of Alford, Aberdeenshire. Her distinguished predecessors include architect, Willaim Minto (1761 - 1847), who built Alford and many other Aberdeenshire bridges in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries; Reverend John Minto of Clatt (1810 - 1891), MA Marischal College, 1829, who prepared students for the entrance exam to Aberdeen University, and in whose name an annual prize is awarded by the University of Aberdeen; and William Minto (1845 - 1893), editor and critic, Professor of Logic, University of Aberdeen, 1880 - 1893 (see entry in DNB for further details).

This small collection comprises photocopies of Mrs Needham-Hurst's family history research on the Minto and Reid families of Alford. It contains a copy of printed report from the Scots Ancestry Research Society, 1947;and transcripts of monumental inscriptions in ?Alford churchyard. Complementary material, including a family tree, is held in the deposit file for this collection.
