Administrative HistoryBorn in Banff, Aberdeenshire in 1874, James Moir graduated MA from Aberdeen University in 1897, and BSc in the same year. He was awarded a DSc in 1902, by which time he was already working for the Mines Department of the Transvaal Government as a chemist. He became President of the Johannesburg Scientific Society, and died in Johannesburg in 1929.
SourceThe papers were presented to the library by Professor R. Ian McCallum of the Medical School, Newcastle University. They had been given to him by Mrs. Mairi Buchanan, nee McVean, Helensburgh, whose sister Josie had been engaged to Moir when he died, and was left his papers.
