At the beginning of the volume there is a note of the different names given to individual playing cards: the Ace of Hearts, for example, is called a 'House'. There is also a small mechanical drawing of a 'Thermantidote' with a handwritten note on the reverse. There are a number of drawings and paintings of people in Chinese dress and at the end of the volume there is a printed extract from Isaiah xxxviii. 15. |
