Administrative HistoryCharles Skene (fl. 1795 - 1839) was descended from the Skenes of Drumbreck, a younger branch of the Skenes of Skene. He graduated MA from Marischal College, Aberdeen, 1795, and MD from Edinburgh, 1799. He was Professor of Medicine at Marischal College, Aberdeen, from 1823 to 1839. He had eight children: his fourth son, Alexander, was killed in the Indian Mutiny with his wife and two children.
DescriptionM.D. Diploma to Charles Skene from the University of Edinburgh, 24 June 1799. The degree was given subject to his publishing his paper entitled 'Disputatio medica inauguralis de apoplexia hydrocephalica' which was published in Edinburgh that year.

Physical DescriptionThe diploma is written on vellum in Latin. The seal is attached by pale blue ribbon and is in excellent condition. It shows a shield per saltire by the St Andrew's Cross. The top quarter holds a thistle and the bottom quarter, a castle.
