Administrative HistoryThe revenue of the King's College was generated, for the main part, from their property holdings. The College property falls into three categories: Property acquired under the Foundation Charters; Property acquired by the College subsequent to the Foundation Charters; From Royal Grants. A large part of the original grant consists of teinds, the function of which was to support the parochial clergy. The property and revenue were managed by the Common Procurator (factor) who was selected by the Senatus, and was answerable to the Senatus for the performance of his duties. The income which arose from the funds were referred to as the Procuration Funds. In 1752 the College sold the Superiorities of its lands and in 1765 a similar sale was carried out regarding its Patronages.
DescriptionAlso see Finance section, endowments and funds, then Mortifications for details of properties where funds generated are mortified for the use of the college.

ArrangementMany items within this series are technically legal documents but due to the large extent of material relating to property it has been arranged in a separate series.
Material originally part of the old and new charter chest has been maintained in its original shuttle and shuttles have not been split over sub-series.
There is a degree of overlap between records arranged into property acquisition, property disposal and property leasing. The arrangement has depended on the source of the material (old or new charter chest, crown tower, unlisted material).
