Administrative History | The Faculty of Science was instituted by Ordinance No. 31 of the Commissioners under the Universities (Scotland) Act, 1889.
The following Professors, Readers, and Lecturers constituted the Faculty of Science: the Professors of Mathematics, Natural Philosophy, Chemistry, Natural History, Botany, Anatomy, Physiology, Agriculture, Geology, Engineering, Forestry, Bacteriology, the Reader in Geography and the Lecturers in Veterinary Hygiene and Principles of Agriculture (taken from the 1925 - 1926 University Calendar).
An additional Faculty of Engineering was created in academic year 1986- 1987. In the year 1989 - 1990, the existing Faculties were re-structured, and now included: Biological Sciences and Engineering & Mathematics & Physical Sciences. In 1995 - 1996 the number of Faculties were reduced to four and now included Medicine & Medical Sciences and Science and Engineering.
In 2003 the Faculties were re-structured to form the three Colleges (College of Arts & Social Sciences, College of Life Sciences & Medicine and College of Physical Sciences). |
