Source | Exact provenance unclear but believed gifted to the library by James Ronald Ritchie (1908-1943), teacher and RAF officer. Flight Lieutenant James Ronald Ritchie was born in Aberdeen in 1908, the son of a commercial traveller. He studied at Gordon’s College and then at Aberdeen University, from which he graduated MA in 1929. He was interested in literature and archaeology. He taught from 1930 to 1939 at the Egyptian Government School in Assuit, Upper Egypt, and at the outbreak of the Second World War he volunteered for the RAF, in which he held the rank of Flight Lieutenant. He was killed on active service in the Middle East in 1943. |
