Description | Letter from John Hope to David Skene in which he states that as Skene has declined the offer, Home has been appointed; he discusses the method by which they came to offer him the position and the agreement they came to regarding money; the transaction between himself, Skene and the principal will pave the way for future offers should they become available; he asks Skene to let him know what his collection consists of and he will send him some of his duplicates; he states that Dr Ramsay is anxious to meet Skene; Lord Bute has presented botanical books to the College of Physicians; James Robertson is to be employed for two more summers; he had a letter from Lord Bute who would like Dr Hill to write a British Herbal or History of English Plants with figures; he intends to send Lord Bute all he can and will inform Bute of Skene's merits; Dr. Fraser has gone to Aleppo as physician to the factory there, undated. |
