Description | Papers of other members of the Dingwall family. The items in this section consist of letter books and business books belonging to three members of the Dingwall family:
Arthur Dingwall Fordyce of Culsh, LL.D. (1745 – 1834). Son of William Dingwall of Culsh, who was cousin to William Dingwall of Brucklay (c. 1676 – 1733). Advocate in Aberdeen and Commissary of Aberdeen.
Alexander Dingwall (1748 – 1796). Brother of Arthur Dingwall-Fordyce, hosiery manufacturer and merchant
William Dingwall (1782 – 1837). Son of Alexander Dingwall, merchant in Greenock and Glasgow.
While several of the volumes are marked with their owner’s name, others are not and have been assigned to Arthur Dingwall Fordyce and Alexander Dingwall on internal evidence. None of the volumes assumed to belong to Alexander Dingwall are marked with any name, and the entries are in various hands.
The numbering on the letter book spines does not give a chronological sequence. |
