Administrative HistoryBlowout was first published in July 1989. Neil Rothnie (a Drilling Fluids Engineer or 'Mud Engineer') was the first editor (of the first 16 issues) and second deputy chairman of OILC. It was a monthly magazine in tabloid format styled as 'the voice of the offshore worker'. It claimed that it had a 30,000 readership. The first issue had an initial print run of 2000 and was reprinted in a smaller format of 1000 and appeared on 6th July 1989, the first anniversary of Piper Alpha. It is still being published.
