Administrative History | Francis Ogston (bap. 1803, d. 1887), physician and professor of medical jurisprudence (1857-1883) at Aberdeen University. Sir Alexander Ogston (1844-1929) was his eldest son.
Francis Ogston studied at the Grammer School and Marischal College in Aberdeen before completing his medical studies in Edinburgh, graduating MD in 1824. He afterwards travelled and undertook further study in Europe before settling in Aberdeen. He ran a general practice in the city (Alexander Ogston was his assistant from 1865-73) and was also Aberdeen's first medical officer of health from 1862-1881. In 1841 he married Amelia Cadenhead (d.1852), the daughter of Alexander Cadenhead, procurator fiscal for Aberdeen. |
