DescriptionA collection of 50 miniature (6.5 x 10.5 cm) professional portraits of various members of the Cadenhead family. Further biographical information prepared by the depositor, including details of connections between the different family members, is available in the deposit file and also added below. The numbers below correspond with the reference number on the family trees (see MS 3850/4/1/1/1).

1. John Cadenhead
(brother of Alexander Cadenhead 1858-60. Advocate in Aberdeen, son of John and Anna Cadenhead, died 1867 aged 78.)

2. Dr Robert Cushny, minister at Fochabers
(father of Carrie (Caroline) Anne Mary Cushny; Minister of Fochabers or Bellie. b. 1810 d. 1881 m. 1844 Margaret Forbes b.1814. His mother Anne Gray was an aunt of the Alice Gray who married James Leonard (great grandparents of Josephine Elizabeth Carter). Anne Gray married Alexander Cushny minister of Oyne in 1786 and had several children including Alexander Cushny b.1790 minister of Rayne and Robert b.1810 minister of Fochabers or of Bellie.)

3. Dr John Cadenhead
(married to Jessie Duguid, died 1868 [aged 63?], son of William Cadenhead (gardener) and Margaret (maiden surname) Duncan.)

4. Mrs Janet Milne
(Jessie (Mrs) Milne. Sister to Alice Gray. Jessie (Janet) Milne was the third wife of Dr John Milne, former rector of Dollar Academy. Milne's first wife was Louisa Walford and his second wife was Emily Collinson Bell.)

(Uncle William Leonard, brother of Dr Leonard, merchant in Malta. The brother of James Leonard - Surgeon and father of Katherine Seaton (Josephine Carter's grandmother))

8. James Cadenhead (brother of George Cadenhead)
(Skipper. He is described as George's brother; although there is no reference to him in the Cadenhead book. However the Old Parochial Register for Old Machar, Aberdeen has the following entry for his baptism: '30th November 1821 Alexander Cadenhead Esq Advocate Aberdeen and his spouse Jane Shireffs had a son born named James, baptised by the Revd. Dr Shirrefs, in presence of James Brebner Esq. and John Cadenhead advocate. Old Machar'.)

(mother of Edith, Jessie, Florence and Louisa Cadenhead. Charlotte Helen Davidson married John, the brother of Colonel James Cadenhead (see 31). Could Florence be the cousin as in the nurse Florence Cadenhead, a cousin? (See Cadenhead photos))

((Cousin Ethel) Successively Mrs Alexander Cushny and Mrs Combe. She was a cousin to James and Alice Cadenhead (JEO's mother), being the daughter of John William Leonard (uncle Jack) b. 1832, Katherine's brother and Fanny Warren. Ethel was born in 1863 and married Alexander Cushny, widower and merchant Shanghai b.1823, the son of Alexander Cushny minister of Rayne and nephew to Dr Robert Cushny minister of Fochabers. On her second marriage, she married a Mr Combe far nearer her own age.)

(the son of James Cadenhead and Wilhelmina Wilson (JEO's uncle and aunt.)

49. Robert Burnett
(miniature of Robert Burnett taken from one painted in Edinburgh in Dec 1815 by miniature painter W.J. Thomson - Mrs Burnett. Robert Bennett was married to Amelia Shirrefs. Amelia was the sister of Jane who married Alexander Cadenhead in 1817.)

50. Reverend W. A. Lunan
(minister at Pinehill, Kincardineshire, d.1769 at 66. Jane Sheriffs' father James was married to a Jane Lunan.)
