Description | A - Z of index cards with GWW print on one side and Title; Date; Size; Source; Wilson Neg no; File Neg no; and Other Information on the reverse. Not all of the cards have images attached. All of the images appear to be images sourced from outwith the Aberdeen University Collection. It is not clear if the bundles are arranged by subject or location. The division of the bundles is as follows: One bundle is labelled 'R' possibly for images connected to the royal family; A-C; D-G; H-O; P-S; T - Z
Howard Rickets is referred to as 'HR'; Bernard Howard Loomes as "BHL" whose collection was now at the Royal Museum of Scotland; MacBean collection - "McB".
Howard Ricketts Howard Ricketts and his wife Jane are pioneers of photographic collecting in Britain. They began their collection with 19th century photography and branched into Indian photography in the 1970's.
Bernard Howarth-Loomes Howarth-Loomes was a particular collector of stereo - photographs. These photographs interested him by the stereoscopic three- dimensional process. He collected photographic prints, stereo-cards and photographic equipment. The topographical range of his collection spans the British Isles. The National Monument Records holds a deposit of copies from Howarth-Loomes collection. He was also the author of 'Victorian Photography: A collectors guide' (1974).
MacBean Stuart and Jacobite Collection at the University of Aberdeen The MacBean collection holds ten George Washington Wilson prints, mainly documenting historical locations associated with the rebellions. The South Uist images feature Flora MacDonald's birthplace; the ruins of the clan Ranald's Castle; site of Bonnie Prince Charlie's landing; and Bonnie Prince Charlie's cave. In addition, the collection holds images of, Ruthven Castle in Kingussie, Moy Hall in Inverness-shire, and Bonnie Prince Charlie's house in Strath in Skye. |
Arrangement | Originally stored in a metal drawer from an index card filing cabinet. The cards have been bundled into roughly equal sections but it is not clear if Taylor organised the cards by geographic location or subject. |
