| Administrative History | The Atlas was created by an informal committee under the auspices of the Scottish Ornithologists' Club, Grampian Branch and the Moray Bird Club. This work builds upon previous endeavours such as the annual North-East Scotland Bird Report (from 1974), an atlas published in 1990 titled 'The Birds of North-East Scotland (excluding Moray)' and in 1992 'The Birds of Moray and Nairn' publication.
The Scottish Ornithologists' Club was founded in Edinburgh in 1936 and is still in existence. It's aims are stated in 2014 as: •To promote the study, recording and conservation of wild birds and their habitats throughout Scotland. •To promote an interest in our wild birds. •To provide a focus for anyone with an interest in, and for more information relating to, the study of birds in Scotland.
There are branches throughout Scotland such as the Aberdeen Branch (previously called the Grampian Branch and as of 2013 the North-East Scotland Branch). The local branch was founded in 1947 and the first meeting, presided by V.C. Wynne-Edwards, took place in the Department of Natural History, Marischal College. |
