| Description | The Admiral Fitzroy Testimonial Fund was raised to assist Fitzroy's widow and children following his suicide on 30 April 1865. Fitzroy had expended a personal fortune on the survey of the Straits of Magellan and had not been recompensed by the government. The proposal to set up the fund was made to the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce by William Ferguson on 31 July 1865. |
