| Administrative History | Major James Forgan Grant (M.B.,Ch.B, Aberdeen 1906), son of James R Grant, chartered accountant, born Fraserburgh 1882. Command, R.A.M.C. 1907. In 1909 he was sent to India and served there until 1915. In 1915 he returned home and resided there for most of that year after which he returned to India. He was sent to Mesopotamia in 1917 and stayed there until 1919 when he returned home to Britain once more. After serving in Ceylon for two years, he retired from the army in 1927. Final Rank, Acting Lieut. Colonel. O.B.E 1918. Diploma in Medical Radiology and Electrology 1928. He died in 1966 in Bexhill, England. Muriel Keir, nee Lyon, (daughter of Major Alexander Lyon D.S.O.) (fl 1948 - c 2000). She married Walter Keir (1920 - c 1995), lecturer in English literature, University of Aberdeen, writer and broadcaster in 1948. Niece of Major J Forgan Grant. For related papers see MS 3489 & MS 3635.

Dr. Edward Alastair Smith (1939-), (MA 1961, PhD 1967), University Lecturer and Administrator. He was the first Director of the University's Development Trust, but Alastair had had a very long experience at the University, right from student till almost today, and been in the Geography department, and been a very prominent recruiter of overseas students. Has also had a spell in University residence, as a warden, but probably his most distinctive time with the University was in the very new venture of the Development Trust.
